William Turner, of Harriman, TN

William A. Turner 82, of Oakdale, TN passed away in his home surrounded by his family on March 20, 2018. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather that will be sadly missed by his family.

He was born in Blairsville in Union County, to the late Sherman Ralph Turner and Mary A. Turner on March 20, 1936.

He is preceded in death by one son, William Ralph Turner of Oakdale, TN; one daughter, Beatrice Ann Downing of the Defuniak Springs, Florida, as well as his sister, Cordelia (Jo) Yeary and husband, Ed Yeary.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Turner, as well as his loving children, Diane (Tom) Burke, of Mississippi, Sonia Turner of Ohio, Bill (Deonna) Turner of Oakdale and stepdaughter, Linda (Darrell) Roddy of Rockwood, Sheryl (Wilmer) Rivera of FL.; stepson, Jerry (Marcia) Luchs of VA.; 8 grandchildren, William Turner, Luke Turner, Travis Turner, Aaron Turner, Billy Shewbrooks, Amanda Shewbrooks, Holly Neuman and Megan Downing; one brother, Austin (Rita) Turner as well as several great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Bill, as he was known to most, was a graduate of the University of Tennessee. He retired as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy after 21 years of service. He then went to work for the state of Tennessee and retired after 10 years of service.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 23, 2018 from 10:00 – 12:00 p.m. at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg. Interment to follow in the Roane Memorial Gardens in Rockwood, TN with military honors.
