Verta Solomon

Verta Bailey Solomon of Oakdale died on Wednesday, May 21, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, George Solomon, Jr.; her parents Tom & Lillian Bailey; brothers Raymond, Willard, and Albert Bailey; and sisters Bonnie & Opal Bailey, Rosalee Johnson, and Barbara King.
Verta is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda & Merley Tilson of Oakdale and Lynn & Bill Farnham of Harriman. She has four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. They are granddaughters and grandsons-in-law Tracy & Jim Disney and Melanie & Pokey Nelson of Oakdale, grandson Derrick Stewart and granddaughter Katy Farnham both of Harriman. Verta's great grandchildren are Reagan & Corbin King and Hayden & Hannah Nelson of Oakdale. She is also survived by her sister Mollie Moore of Harriman, brother Warren Bailey of La Porte, Indiana and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Doc & Eva Solomon of Rossville, Georgia. Verta has many nieces, nephews, and friends that she considers family, most especially, Teresa Solomon, Mary Gilmore, and Scott & Blake Stout.
Throughout their lives, George and Verta opened their home and hearts to many people. Their lives were devoted to serving God with their ministry of music. Their church home was Rankin Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Oakdale.
The family will receive friends at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg on Thursday, May 22, 2014 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at Rankin Chapel Baptist Church in Oakdale at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 23, 2014 with Bro. Mark McCullough and Bro. Jim Disney officiating. Interment will be in the Rankin Chapel Church Cemetery, Oakdale.
