Verda Wilson

Verda Lee Wilson, 85, of the Joyner Community passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2013. He was born on June 4, 1927 in the Joyner Community of Morgan County. He was a life long member of Union Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon on March 6, 1960. He was dedicated to Christ and loved his church family with all his heart. He loved the joy of singing in the choir and with his former gospel group The Unionaires. He retired from the Morgan County Board of Education with 41 years of service and dedication to the love of the children of Morgan County. He truly gave his life to the education of children and of his fellow teachers. He was a member of the Morgan County Retired Teacher's Association. He was married to the love of his life Bonnie Jean (Robinson) Wilson for 59 years, celebrating their wedding anniversary on Christmas Day. Verda Lee was presented a 50 year life membership in the Black Diamond Masonic Lodge No. 625 of Petros, Tennessee on January 1, 2004. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving and touring Europe from September 1945 until February 1947..

He is preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Jean (Robinson) Wilson, his parents, Howard and Minnie Lee Wilson; his sisters, Kassie (Walter) Woods, Jean (Bill) Willocks, Joanne Barger; brother, Billy Wilson; and father-in-law & mother-in-law, Cliff & Pearl (Vallalay) Robinson.

Verda Lee leaves behind son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Teressa (Scott) Wilson, daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Greg Landrum, all of Joyner; five grandchildren; Jason (Erin) Wilson, Joni (Joe) Armes, Dustin (FiancAC. Cristie Allred), Tyler and Chelsey Landrum; five great grandchildren; Halle and Bo Wilson, Malachi, Isabella & Addison Armes. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Betty Duncan of Joyner; sister-in-law & brother in law's, Connie and Shorty Miller of Oliver Springs, Kenneth and Nancy Robinson of Wartburg and Mabel Robinson of Mossy Grove.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 25, 2013 at Union Baptist Church in Joyner from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. with funeral services to follow at 8:00 P.M. with Rev. David Tapp and Rev. Mark Caldwell officiating. Graveside services will be Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Union Church Cemetery in Joyner.

Special thanks is given to the all the staff at Lifecare of Morgan County for their love and care of Verda Lee during his last year of life. They not only tended to his physical needs but gave unconditional love to him while there.
