Teressa Captain

Teressa Dean Ward Captain (Judkins), born on September 2, 1946, in Sunbright, TN, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016. She is preceded in death by her sister, Kay (Wayne) Goad, Kingston; parents, Bill and Lorene Ward and grandparents, Phillip and Florence Kennedy of Sunbright, TN.
Teressa was a graduate of Sunbright High School and held degrees with honors in psychology and applied organizational management.
She worked for the State of Tennessee Department of Probation and Parole for many years and was a recipient of the 2002 TN Board of Probation and Parole's Mary R. Walker award.
Teressa volunteered for a number of organizations over the years, including the Morgan-Scott Project. She was nominated for the 1988 Volunteer Action Award and received a letter of thanks from the late President Ronald Reagan.
Teressa was an accomplished seamstress, carpenter, musician, writer, counselor, historian, teacher, built libraries for a couple of schools and was a great humanitarian, unselfishly giving her time, money and heart to dozens of animal charities, children's cancer research charities and families of the local communites and elsewhere.
She will be deeply missed by many.
She is survived by daughters, Bridget Judkins Lukowski and husband Doug of Wilmington, NC, Lisa Judkins Rucker of Sunbright, TN, Emily Judkins of Kapa'a, Hawaii; grandchildren, Christopher and Amie Howell of Sunbright, TN, Nathanael Rucker of Clinton, TN, Adrian and Nikki Metcalfe of Robbins, TN, Aaron and Kathryn Metcalfe of Knoxville, TN and Alexander Metcalfe of Knoxville; great-grandchildren, Peyton, Lillyan, Alexis, Hayley, Leeland, Madelyn and Riley; brothers and sisters, Jerry and Barbara Ward of Wartburg,TN, Philip and Jeanie Ward of Sunbright, TN, Darlene and Brian Murray of Sunbright, TN and Sandra Bryant of Harriman; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Special mention to the late Roddie (Jack) Judkins, George Williams and Ron Hall. Also, to George Captain, Asheley Williams Kenney and Sharon Graves.
The family will receive friends and have a Memorial Service on Saturday, June 4, 2016 from 12:00PM to 2:00PM at Byrd Baptist Church with Brother Herb Judkins officiating. In lieu of flowers, Momma wished for donations to be made to The National Children's Cancer Research and Aid to Distressed Families of the Appalachian Counties.
