Lane, Stonney Ray - Age 77 of Wartburg passed away peacefully on Monday, December 8, 2014. He was born October 13, 1937 in Williamsburg, KY. Stonney retired from the state of Tennessee after 30 plus years of service as an educator, teaching at Rosedale Elementary School, Coalfield High School, started the first class for inmates at Brushy Mountain Prison in 1965, and Wartburg Central High School as the principal and teacher. He also coached basketball and softball. He served in the state's probation and parole department as a counselor and director of the Knoxville office. In 1976 He was appointed as Warden of Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary in Petros, TN. In 1995 he was elected as the County Executive for Morgan County. After retirement he authored the book, "Building Time at Brushy" with the assistance of Billie Lane.
Stonney is preceded in death by his parents, Claude Lane and Dorothy Ross and his youngest daughter, his little red head, Lori Lane. He is survived by daughter Lisa Byrd and son Dusty Lane, step-son Tyler Winstead, daughter in law Cheryl Lane, life long and loyal friend Ray Tucker. Grandchildren Erica Byrd, Justin Byrd, Lauren Johnson, Chase Lane, Darry LaRue, Haley Goodman, Jordan Nichols, Lindsay Blalock and Whitney Dyer. Great grandchildren Lila Johnson, Bear Johnson, Marley LaRue, Levi Goodman, Josiah Goodman and Carson Blalock. His brother, Harold Lane and sister Claudia McNeely, and his loyal companion and protector, Buddy.
The family wishes to say a special thank you to the nurses, doctors and staffs of several locations that have cared for our father over the past years. We especially thank LeRoy and Angie Daughtery for the personal care and compassion they have provided.
The family expresses their heart felt gratitude to all the friends and extended family for the continued thoughts and prayers.
Receiving of Friends will be Saturday, December 13, 2014, from 2pm to 4pm Schubert Funeral Home, 1381 Knoxville Hwy, Wartburg, TN. Funeral services will follow with Bro. Joey Aytes officiating.
