Sharlyn Young, of Sunbright

Sharlyn Kay Thompson Young age 70 of the Mill Creek Community of Sunbright, Tn., passed away on August 23rd at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, Tn.

Born on March 25, 1952, in Harriman, Tn. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry Clay Thompson and Mary Elsie Shannon Thompson Ellis.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her brother W.C. Thompson, sister Wanda Gay Phillips and brother-n-laws Dwayne Phillips, Alane Phillips and Tom Wheeler, nephews Brent Thompson, Josh Phillips, Michael Foster, Seth York, and Jared Draughn.

She is survived by the love of her life, Roy G. Young, Sr., of Robbins, TN., son Roy G. Young, Jr.; one brother, Steve Thompson (Debbie) of Robbins; sisters, Gerald Faye Caruthers (Dave) of Michigan, Lavada Wheeler of Live Oak, Florida, and Glenda Jo Phillips of Robbins, along with many other relatives and friends.

She started her young career at Highland Telephone Cooperative. Then at the age of 50, she decided to apply for nursing school and became an LPN, and successfully ran her home health business for many years before her retirement.

Sharlyn had a special gift of quilting and making any type of craft. Her happiest times were traveling thru many estate sales looking for that special piece of furniture or the smallest antique all over the county. She also had a great love for the Great Smoky Mountains.

The family will receive friends Thursday, August 25, 2022, at Schubert Funeral Home in Sunbright from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with the funeral to follow at 7:00 p.m. Graveside services will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Diamond Cemetery in Elgin, TN.
