Samuel Wayne Jones, age 81, known as Sam went home to be with the Lord and Savior on July 31, 2024 at his home in Deer Lodge, TN. His wife of 41 years, Melissa Scott Jones was by his side. Sam was born on June 3, 1943.
Samuel was a member of the Byrd Baptist Church. He was a proud retired Navy Veteran and lived a life of service to his country and community. He had an energetic passion for working on his farm and looked forward to traveling to his winter home.
Samuel Jones Senior Chief Quarter Master served his country for 24 years. He was a Submariner and Recruiter during his Navy career. Following his Navy career he also retired from a career of Probation and Parole with additional years of work for ETHRA and Citizens Gas.
Sam’s community service included Habitat for Humanity (Jimmy Carter Project), Scott County Women’s Shelter (Board Member), Head Start (Board Chairman), Morgan County Commission (4 years), Community Corrections and ETHRA (Board Member) as well as Foreman of Grand Jury.
Preceded by his parents Raymond and Margie Jones; brothers Randall, Rodney, Nolan, and two infant siblings.
Survived by wife Melissa Scott Jones; sister Linda Lewis; brother Dennis (Tina) Jones; sister-in-law Kathy (Don) Carroll; brother-in-law Freddy (Linda) Scott; and sisters-in-laws Donna Jones and Terry Jones. A host of nieces and nephews will most certainly feel his absence along with a huge circle of friends. He will be forever remembered by his loving wife.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with the funeral to follow at 8:00 p.m. with Pastor Tony Huling and Rev. Herb Judkins officiating. Graveside services will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Deer Lodge.
Serving as pallbearers are Tommy Lewis, Joey Lewis, Charles Walker, Levi Walker, Keith Shannon, Houston Shannon and Jeremy Scott.
