Ruth Galloway

Ruth "Fern" Jones Galloway, 87, (widow of the late Judge Samuel J. Galloway) of
Nashville, TN, passed away January 11th at her home surrounded by her loved ones. A
Loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Fern was also a world traveler,
Avid ballroom dancer and ardent Democrat.

Born July 6th, 1926 in Indianapolis, IN, to Lloyd C. and Lula (Howard) Jones, Fern
Attended Sunbright High school in Sunbright, TN, and continued her education while
Working in Oak Ridge during World War II as a bicycle messenger and weapons
Assembler.

Mrs. Galloway married Sam Galloway in 1946 and had 4 wonderful children. After
Moving to Nashville, in 1963 Fern was crowned Mrs. Tennessee and competed in the
National Mrs. America pageant. After the passing of her husband, she returned to
School and earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Tennessee Nashville
And began her job with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, where she
Worked for 20 years.

The founding member of the Nashville Toastmistress Club, Fern won many regional
Public speaking awards. She also founded a travel business, visiting 39 countries.
She trekked Macchu Pichu, visited the Great Pyramid at Giza, and danced on the Great
Wall of China. Fern loved ballroom dancing and attended dancing competitions and
Exhibitions all over the country.

Fern is survived by her brother LC Jones, Sisters Shirley Jones and Edna Rose
Hunter, sons Gregory (Nancy) and Roger Galloway, daughters Teresa (Bill) Covington
and Jennifer (Charles) Brindley; grandchildren Emily Covington (Seth) Waltenbaugh,
Sam Galloway, Laura Covington, Nathanial (Sara) Brindley, Mary Ruth Covington
(Dave) Dickerson, Alexander Brindley, Caitlin Galloway, Jacob Galloway, Charlotte
Brindley and Hamilton Brindley; and great grandchildren Courtney Galloway, Graham
Waltenbaugh, Caspar Brindley, Laura Grace Galloway-Vespie, Dulcie Dickerson, Dean
Waltenbaugh and Arthur Brindley.

She is preceded in death by husband Judge Samuel J. Galloway and grandson
Christopher Galloway.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 14, 2014 from 5-7 pm Schubert Funeral Home Sunbright.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday 10 AM with Bro. L.C. Jones officiating Internment will follow in the Flatrock Cemetery, Deer Lodge, TN
