Ruth Caldwell Barnett
Ruth Caldwell Barnett, age 96, of Rockwood passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2014. Ruth is best remembered by Friends and Family for her contagious cheerful disposition, positive outlook on everything and amazing good health.
Ruth was born June 21, 1917, to Tennie May and George Caldwell. She grew up on the family farm near Deer Lodge. Following High School graduation she married Leamon T. Barnett, also of Deer Lodge. Shortly thereafter Ruth and Lee moved to Detroit where she worked in an airplane factory as a riveter during WW II. After Lee's return from WWII service in Europe they returned to Tennessee, settling in South Harriman. Ruth is well remembered for cheerfully balancing her homemaking responsibilities along with helping Lee make a success of the family cabinetmaking business. Ruth fondly recalled summers with family and friends while houseboating and fishing on Watts Bar Lake. They moved to a lakefront home in Kingston in the late 60's and then to their Post Oak Road home two decades later. Ruth and Lee traveled extensively in the West while visiting their daughter Nancy and family in Boulder, Colorado.
Ruth excelled at "accentuating the positive" and "eliminating the negative". Ruth maintained her love for life and exuberant positive nature while enduring the challenging losses of her first born child Denny, her husband Lee and her only daughter Nancy. She is loved and missed by her family; granddaughter Laurel Beeken and husband Jonah, grandson Jeremy Banker and wife Elise, and her great grandson Elliott Beeken, all of Berthoud, Colorado. Ruth is also deeply loved and remembered by Nancy's husband John and all the Banker Brothers as well as her many dear friends in Tennessee and Colorado.
Ruth's Funeral and Memorial Service will be 5:00pm, Tuesday, March 25 at Caney Ford Baptist Church, immediately followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall. All family and friends are invited. She will be laid to rest in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Deer Lodge.
Schubert Funeral Home of Wartburg, TN, is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Nancy Barnett Banker Scholarship Fund of the Eye Health Institute, 5305 Spine Rd. Ste. B, Boulder, CO 80301.
