Roland Barnes

Roland Eugene Barnes crossed over to his heavenly home on Friday, June 17, 2016 at Cumberland House, Hospice of Cumberland County, TN. He was born on September 29, 1931 the son of Virginia VanNorstran Barnes and Bethlehem "Slim" Barnes in Sunbright, TN.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War. While in California he met and married his loving wife of almost 50 years, Susan Varney Barnes, on December 23, 1966. Together they resided in La Mirada, California before moving to Crossville, TN in 2013.

Roland was a loving caring man who traveled the United States as a Disaster Volunteer for the American Red Cross, Rio Honda Chapter in Whittier,California, and American Red Cross, East Tennessee Region. He also served many years as a volunteer at Presbyterian Hospital Hospice of Inter Health in Whittier, California.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father and two brothers, Clem VanNorstran and Van Barnes.
He is survived by two brothers Barney Barnes and John Barnes. He is survived by four sisters, Jessie Norris, Phyllis Simpson, Claudean Davis, and Mary Lois Moffette. Sister & Brother in laws, Mary Ann and Richard Brewer, Donald and Verna Varney, Stephen Varney. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and many many close friends. Roland never met a stranger.
Words can't express our appreciation for the care and compassion received at Cumberland Medical Center, Hospice of Cumberland County, and Tennessee Plateau Oncology and staff.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any expressions of sympathy be sent to America Red Cross.
