Raymond Martin Saunders, 85, of Sunbright died Friday, October 6, 2017.
He is survived by Janet Camp Saunders, his wife of 59 years; son Martin Saunders; daughters Melanie Scott ( Jeff ) and Beth Melancon ( Brett); grandchildren Adam, Alyssa and Tim Scott; and Blake, Brad and Ashley Melancon. He is also survived by seven nieces, including Becky Hainey who assisted during his battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
He was preceded in death by parents George and Lucy Saunders, and siblings Frank Saunders and Carol Harris.
After graduating Tennessee School for the Blind, Raymond earned a Bachelor degree at Tennessee Tech, Masters at Vandercook College of Music, and Doctorate at Trinity Theological Seminary. He taught band and choir first at Sunbright School in 1957, then in Haywood County until 1964, then again in Sunbright until retirement in 1986. He was saved under the ministry of L.D.Kennedy in Brownsville, becoming an avid volunteer missionary for the rest of his life. He founded Caribbean College of the Bible as an arm of Samaritan Inn ministry and youth center, teaching and preaching in the Caribbean, Central and South America and Africa as well as locally. He also was Minister of Music in churches in Brownsville, Deer Lodge, Wartburg, and Sunbright.
The family will receive friends Sunday, October 8, 2017 from 2-4 pm Sunbright First Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 4 pm with Pastor Mike Hammonds officiating, internment will follow in the Sunbright Cemetery.
