Hicks, Paul Leon, Sr., of Harriman, TN, died Sunday Afternoon, Feb. 21, 2016, at Lifecare Of Morgan County in Wartburg, TN. He was born in Gobey, TN on September 20, 1928, to Joe Fowler and Gladys Sumner Hicks. He graduated High School at Sunbright, TN in 1946. He joined the Army and was honorably discharged as a paratrooper in the 11 Airborne, in January of 1952. He married Helen Stringfield and moved to Harriman, TN soon after. He worked at the K25 Location for 42 years, the last 33 in the Computing Division as a computer operator at K1007. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Oliver Springs, TN for many years and was a current member of Trenton Street Baptist Church in Harriman, TN (for over the past twenty years .) He enjoyed reading, fishing, and teaching Sunday School. People who knew him thought he was a fine man, great husband, great Father-in-law, great uncle, great friend and was truly his son's hero. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years (Helen), his parents Joe Fowler Hicks & Gladys Sumner Hicks, father and mother in-law, J.W. and Meda Stringfield, sister-in-law, Alien Underwood ,five brothers-in-law, Herschel Stringfield, Leslie Underwood, R.C.May, James Mays, and Talmadge Davis, one niece, Linda Hicks, three nephews, Charles Underwood, Jimmy Mays, and Jerry Davis.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul L Hicks Jr. and Donna Hicks, grandchildren, Amanda Lowe (Jason), Josh Inman (Connie), five great grandchildren, sister, Mary Joe Ellis (Billy), brother Roy Hicks (Betty), sisters-in-law, Shirley Mays of Lima, OH, Merolene Davis of Camila, GA, JoAnn Stringfield of Weed, New Mexico, Joyce Hicks of Harriman, TN, Meagile Stringfield, of Wartburg TN, Brother-in-law J.C Stringfield of Lancing, TN, special niece and flower girl at his wedding, Phyllis Mutz (husband Larry), and many, many nieces, nephews (and their families), cousins, and friends all of whom he cherished.

The family would like to thank the staff for the wonderful care given to Mr. Hicks while he was at Life Care of Morgan County.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 25, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 P.M. with Rev. Perry Spurling officiating. Graveside service will be Friday at 11:00 AM in the Lane Cemetery, Lancing, TN.
