Mona Sue Adkins Strand, 74

Mona Adkins Strand of Deer Lodge, born March 29, 1943 the daughter of Austin and Ruth Adkins, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2017 in her home surrounded by family.

She was an active member of the Deer Lodge Congregational Church and their Women’s Fellowship group.  Mona and her husband, Darrell, owned and operated Pack-N-Snack in Deer Lodge for many years.  She was well-known and loved by the community and was always willing to give a helping hand to whomever was in need.   Mona loved working in her yard and garden and spent many happy hours with her grandchildren Darrell and Ruthie who were the light of her life.

Mona was preceded in death by her parents, Austin and Ruth (Jones) Adkins; husband of 49 years Darrell Strand; sisters, Alice McCartt, Lancing TN,  Buna Hurst of Deer Lodge TN, and Doris Ryon of Springfield, Ohio; brothers, Donald, Ross, Nolan, Bill and P.J. Adkins all of Deer Lodge.

She is survived by her son, Marty and wife Emily (Claubough); her beloved grandchildren, Darrell III and Ruth; sister and Brother-in-law Jeanie (Glenn) Hurtt all of Deer Lodge; Brother-in-law, Herb McCartt of Lancing, and special friends Janice and Jerry Phillips.  Also surviving are multiple nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Monday October 23rd from 5 to 7 pm at Schubert Funeral Home, Sunbright, TN with the funeral to follow at 7pm with Pastor Rose Hermonat officiating.  Graveside burial services will be held on Tuesday October 24th at 11 am at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Deer Lodge.
