Michael "Mike" Lynn Jones, age 59, went home to be with his Lord this past week in Cookeville, TN. Mike was born on January 22, 1953 in Detroit, MI. He graduated from Hazel Park High School where he played in the band and was on the swimming and track teams. He later attended Eastern Michigan University. Throughout the years, Mike was involved with choral music in various churches. He was an avid reader and a history enthusiast.
Mike worked with several non-profit organizations such as the Metro Detroit YMCA, the Detroit Historical Society, and the Muskegon County Museum. He served as the Executive Director of the RV/MH Heritage Foundation in Elkhart, IN and the Mishawaka Business Association. Mike worked in fleet sales at Ford dealerships for over 20 years.
Mike Jones is preceded in death by his parents Willie Otto and Ruby Rosie Hawn-Jones, his brother William Otto Jones and his wife, Mary Ellen Taylor, and his grandparents Henry Perry and Josie Minerva Guffey- Jones and James Abram and Ida Effie Hall- Hawn. He is survived by his son, Christopher Michael Jones, Elkart, IN; his sister, Stephanie Jill Jones-Lazuka and best friend, Marlon Lazuka, Cookeville, TN; an uncle, Billy Perrin, Hixson, TN; nephews, Joshua Michael Foran, Moody, AL , Steven Edward (Melissa) Jones, Redford, MI; and William Vernon (Robin) Jones, Sterling Heights, MI; a niece, Christina Michelle Foran, Knoxville, TN; great nieces, Kaytlin Jones, Molly Jones, Sydney Jones; great nephews Billy Jones, and Robert Jones; along with cousins near and far. His canine companion, Douglas K. Lostdog, was a source of joy and comfort to him.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Cookeville First Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 11 am on Saturday, September 8, 2012, with Dr. Charles McCaskey officiating. Rev. James Johnson, Monterey United Methodist Church, will assist with the service. The Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg is in charge of arrangements. Honorary pallbearers will be Marlon Lazuka, Billy Perrin, Joshua Foran, Steven Jones, Joe Miller, Richard Perrin, and Nathan Perrin.
