Mrs. Mary D. Meyers, 84, of Monroe, MI, passed away Tuesday, Oct.5, 2010, at the Lutheran Home where she had lived the last 5 years. Mary was born December 20, 1925, in Deer Lodge, TN to the late Charlie and Mable (Phillips) Phillips. Mary married Charles Queteen Meyers on January 27, 1947 in Ringold, GA. They moved to Monroe in 1953. He preceded her in death, March 12, 2001 in Crossville, TN, where they had retired.
Sadly, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Meyers.
In addition to her husband and granddaughter, she was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Geneva and a brother Charles Phillips.
Mary is survived by her children and their families. Tony (Elva) Meyers of Monroe, MI, Bill Jack Meyers of Clarkrange, TN, Elaine (Jerry) Hill of The Villages, FL, and James (Janice) Meyers of Washington, PA. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren include Angela (Nate) Koizumi and Kai & Kiana of Vacaville CA; Christie (David) Lussier and Jordyn of Monroe, MI; Michael Meyers of Clarkrange, TN; Paul (Anja) Payne and Hailey & McKenna of Monroe MI; Senior Chief Petty Officer Chad (Angie) Payne and Noah & Zachary stationed in HI; Aren Payne of Texas; Lance Corporal Thomas King stationed in TX; Joel & Hannah Meyers of Washington, PA.
She is also survived by a sister, Lulla (Bill) Bullard of Fairfield Glades, TN, a brother, Lewis (Faye) Phillips and a sister-in-law, Junie Phillips of Deer Lodge, TN.
Mary attended Sunbright HS in Sunbright, TN. She was a varsity basketball star and a 1st place trophy winner in basketball at Senior Olympics. Mary's first job, one she was very proud of, was working as a security guard for the U.S. Defense Department in Oak Ridge,TN, at a plant that built atomic bombs during WWII . She loved babysitting grandchildren, gardening and sewing. She worked for Boes Interior Decorators and La- Z- Boy in Monroe. Mary loved church and was a member of Stewart Rd Church of God and their Willing Workers Ladies group.
The family will receive friends Friday, October 8, 2010 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg TN. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 P.M.
Graveside service will Saturday at 11:00 A.M. in the Mt Hope Cemetery,
Deer Lodge, TN.
