Martin W. Heidel, 95 of Wartburg died Wednesday, September 25, 2013 in the Life Care Center of Morgan County.
He was a life-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wartburg, where he served as an Elder. He was married to Melba Florine Eastham for 66 years. Martin was a retired dairy farmer and a dedicated family man.
He leaves a legacy in the land he worked along Potters Falls Road, the family he raised, and the great friends he made during his long life. He will be well remembered for his storytelling, especially about his hunting adventures.
He was the last surviving child of Alex Frederic Heidel and Wilhelmine Christina "Minnie" Mehlhorn. Martin was preceded in death by his wife Florine and his ten siblings: Rosa, Ida, Alex, Alvin, Helen, Henry, Clarence, Christina, Katie, and Edwin.
Martin is survived by his five children: Marta Monroe, Michell Heidel, James Heidel, Carol Martin, and Janet Sale, plus 12 grandchildren and 18 greatgrandchildren.
A receiving of friends and viewing will be held at Schubert Funeral Home 1318 Knoxville Highway, Wartburg, from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Sunday, September 29, 2013. A funeral service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Monday morning, September 30, 2013 at 10:00 AM, followed by a family cemetery graveside service. The body will lie in state one hour before the funeral service. Pastor Stephen Skov and Associate Pastor David Graves will preside.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Building Fund.
