Marjorie Elizabeth Waddell, age 102, formerly of Wartburg, TN, passed away June 9, 2018 at Brookdale Senior Living of Kingston, TN.

Known as Miss Marjorie to her students, she retired from the teaching profession after 37 years in the Morgan County school system. She began her career at Potters Chapel and later went on to teach at Sunbright, Deer Lodge, Lancing and Central High School in Wartburg.

A tribute to Miss Marjorie’s dedication and love for her students were the frequent visits and many cards and letters that she enjoyed and so appreciated during her retirement years.

As a member of Lancing Presbyterian Church, she taught a Sunday School class for many years and also played the piano for church services. She later moved to Wartburg and became a member of Wartburg Presbyterian Church. Her love of God and respect for her fellow man were guiding tenets in her life.

Through her keen memory and her interest in genealogy, she was able to provide vivid descriptions of life in the Waddell family, which gave many hours of pleasure to her nieces, nephews and their children.

A favorite quote of Marjorie’s was by the well-known Grandma Moses: “I look back on my life like a good day’s work; it was done and I’m satisfied with it.”

Miss Waddell was preceded in death by her parents, Alva G. Waddel and Cora Hurst Waddell; two brothers, Harold Waddell and Hurst Waddell; one sister, Dorothy Begley and nephew, Tom Begley.

Marjorie is survived by four nieces, Anne (Jerry) Sluder, Kingston, TN; Pamela (Bob) Boteler, Mechanicsville, VA; Judy (Leslie) Mayfield, Baster, KY; Janet Waddell, Harlan, KY; one nephew, Wayne (Linda) Waddell, Fredericksburg, VA.

The family will have a graveside service June 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wartburg City Cemetery in Wartburg with Rev. Jeff Sledge officiating.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Amedisys Hospice caregivers and to the staff at Brookdale of Kingston for their excellent care.

Schubert Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Miss Marjorie Elizabeth Waddell.
