Macel Hamby Adkins, 84, of Oak Ridge passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012. Macel, a Morgan County native grew up in Gobey and was the daughter of Julia Ann Rader Hamby and William Hamilton Hamby, whose ancestors were pioneers in settling Morgan County.
Macel married Eugene Lewis Adkins during World War II. They had three daughters: Etta Jean Luge of Winter Springs, FL, Pamela Kay Hopper of Oak Ridge and infant daughter Judy Diane who preceded Macel in death.
Macel is survived by Two Daughters
Son-In-Law: Frank Juge
Grandchildren: Harold Smith, Dustin Cooper, Jamie Hopper and Heather Hopper
Great-Grandchildren: Joshua, Bailey, William, Ezekiel, Maxx and Isabella
Also Surviving is her brother: Burl Hamby of Michigan
Macel was preceded in death by husband Eugene, Son-in-Law; Jimmie Hopper, Sisters; Myrtle Young, Lennie Jones, Vesta Fairchild, Eva Byrd, Minnie Stringfield Byrd and Sarah.
Brothers; Evans, Leonard, Eugene, Taskel, Walter and Robert.
Macel was of the Baptist Faith. She worked in Oak Ridge during the war, Head Start in Lancing and volunteered at the YWCA's Nearly New Shop in Oak Ridge.
Her hobbies included cooking, painting, reading, sewing and enjoying her great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends From 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg. Funeral Services will follow at 8:00PM with Bro. Charles Webb and Bro. Carl Stringfield officiating. Graveside Services will be at the Sunbright Cemetery in Sunbright at 11:00AM Thursday, April 26, 2012
