Lester Burgess

Lester Burgess of the Stephens community passed from this life into the splendors of heaven on June 4, 2016 to join his wife, Teba. He had celebrated his 90th birthday on April 30th with a wonderful gathering of friends and family. He was preceded in death by his daughter Lorene, parents Dawson and Annie, and siblings Junior, Jesse, Eliza and Myrtle. Left to carry on his legacy are his eight children Margaret, Mary, Connie, Jackie, Robert, Kenneth, Jimmy, and Johnny and their spouses, fifteen grandchildren, and many great- and great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves many relatives and friends who loved him very much.
Family was everything to Lester. He loved when everyone gathered for meals, especially in the summer when he could watch all the kids play from his rocker on the porch. Even though we are sad at our loss, we know that he is happier than he has ever been. He would want anyone reading this to live life with priorities being family and faith in Jesus Christ.
Lester retired from Brushy Mountain Prison after thirty years of service. He was a member of Stephens Baptist Church where he loved to worship with his friends. He was honored with a 50-year membership as a Black Diamond Mason this year and loved those devoted friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 7, from 1:00-3:00 P.M. at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg. Funeral services and Masonic rites will follow at 3:00PM with Bro. Tim Ruppe officiating . Lester will then be laid to rest in the Union Baptist Church cemetery.
