Juanita Barger went home to be with the Lord on October 12, 2017. She was 96 years of age. She was a devoted Christian who served her family of faith and her neighbors through Liberty Baptist Church. She worshipped in each of the congregation’s four sanctuaries and enjoyed sharing those memories with friends and family. It has been said that “All of the children at Liberty were her children.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Barger; father, John Walter Chapman; mother, Stella Knight Chapman; siblings, infant sister Doshia Rubina Chapman, Thelma (John) Hart, Velma “Dude” (Lee) Phillips, Rose (O.D.) Loggins, Polly Chapman, Cora (Emmett) Sweat, J.D. Chapman, and Jim Chapman. She was the last surviving sibling of her generation. Also preceding her in death were beloved nieces Janice Beach and Natalie Chapman.
Juanita is survived by two sisters-in-law, Naomi Chapman and Barbara Chapman; nieces and nephews, Jannie Lou Roher, Margaret (Wendell) Chappell, Gwanda (Larry) Fisher, Dr. James (Cynthia) Chapman, John Chapman, Lisa (Matthew) Sexton, Tom (Beth) Beach, Honna (Billy) Gorley, Vera (Bill) Gormley, and Lisa Ziegler Chapman.
She will also be remembered by a host of great-nieces and great-nephews and their children.
The family would like to extend deep gratitude to Ms. Mary Phillips, Ms. Christy Scott, and Mrs. Judy Redmon, who lovingly cared for Juanita at her home in her final days.
The family will receive friends Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg with the funeral to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. David Acres officiating. Interment to follow in the Liberty Church Cemetery in Wartburg, TN
