Joseph Johnson

Mr. Joseph Mitchell Johnson, age 68 of Oakdale, moved home to be with his Lord and Savior, December 23, 2011. He was born April 13, 1943, in the Piney Community, the sixth of nine children born to Boyd and Pearl Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents Boyd and Pearl Johnson; his sister Irene Walls; and his brothers Edgar and Millard Johnson.

Mitchell was most proud and appreciative to God for Salvation and for the Salvation of his entire household. He studied God's Word for truths to share with his wife, daughters, sons, and grandchildren. He was a member of the Piney Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday school, Royal Ambassadors, Bible Drills, Bible Study, and VBS classes. He was a member of the choir and loved the Lord and the Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #377.

"Mitch", as he was called by his family, grew up living on the farm, playing on the river, and working at the railroad "Y". In 1961, he joined the Army only to be medically discharged just months later. He returned to Oakdale where he worked many odd jobs including moving furniture and laying carpet. This is when he fell in love with his forever "girlfriend", Annie.

As they began their family, Mitchell drove gas trucks for Gulf Oil and was a fixer at Roane Hosiery. He would go on to work in many mechanical, electrical, and construction trades. He was most well-known for his mastery of appliances. Mitchell was always fixing things for others and creating inventions to make work easier.
