Joan Haynes of Petros, Tennessee was born Joan Armes in Kentucky on February 25, 1929. She went home to be with the Lord in the home she loved on May 12, 2016. Known to her community as "Ms. Jo", she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Tennessee. She retired from Morgan County Schools having taught 7th Grade at the old Petros school for many years as well as the new Petros-Joyner School. She served as Vice President of the Board of Directors of Highland Telephone, representing the 324 exchange. She is preceded in death by her husband Cluster Allen "Nub" Haynes (1919-1978), known to family as "Uncle Buddy"; her parents Clyde "Dugan" Armes and Ruth McElhaney; brother Lewis Armes; two sisters, Eulene Armes, and ThelmaLee "Cotton" Patrick; niece Judy Caddell.
She is survived by her son, Doyle Haynes, daughter-in-law Cheryl, and grandson Jeremy; sister, Novella "Shug" Jestes of Petros, niece Sally and grandniece Jennifer, both of Florida; grandnephew Matthew Schlossenberg and grandniece Kathryn McMillian, both of Glen Burnie, Maryland; niece Marilyn Foster and grandnephews James and Adam, all of Petros; grandniece Tammy Cox and great grandnephews Brandon and Trevor, all of Petros. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and family on the Haynes side; as well as close friends and neighbors. She was beloved by her former students. She attended Petros Church of God.
There will be a graveside service for Mrs. Haynes, Monday, May 16, 2016 at 4:00PM in the New Petros Cemetery with Bro. Baker officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Rock Mission in Petros.
