James Sexton of Dayton, OH

SEXTON, James Elmer, age 74, of Huber Heights, passed away Friday, April 27th, 2018 at The Hospice of Dayton.

James was born at home in Lancing, Tennessee to Herschel and Florida Sexton on August 30th, 1943.  He attended Sunbright High School where he boxed with his younger brother, Hershel Sexton and played on the high school football team.  James married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Ann Hall of Wartburg, Tennessee on June 23rd, 1964.  James served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Purple Heart.  He retired from DESC after 23 years of service and was a member of Huber Heights First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herschel Sexton; mother, Florida Sexton; brother, Jerry Sexton and sister, JoAnn Shannon.

James is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon Ann Sexton; son & daughter-in-law, Jason & Katie Sexton; daughter & son-in-law, Shannon & John Russell; brothers, Hershel (Jr.) Sexton and Larry Sexton; sisters, Judy Lyons and Janice Maples.  Grandchildren include Haleigh and Garrett Russell & Jenna and Abbey Sexton.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

James enjoyed his time outdoors, had a love for growing green beans and tomatoes and had a picture-perfect yard.  James’s word was a promise and his dedication to family and friends was unmatched.  He was a true example of what a husband, father and friend should be.  He will be missed.

Funeral services for James will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 1st, 2018 at Marker & Heller Funeral Home, Huber Heights Chapel, 5844 Old Troy Pike.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:30 AM Tuesday until service time. Interment Maple Hill Cemetery in Tipp City.

James’s last days were spent at The Hospice of Dayton where he received exceptional care. James’s family wishes to extend sincere thanks to all the doctors and nurses at Good Samaritan Hospital and The Hospice of Dayton and all the love and support received from family and friends.
