Rev. James Edward Blakney, known to many as "Preacher" went to be
With the Lord on Thursday, March 18, 2010. He was the founding and
dedicated pastor of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church for 29 years and
was loved by all. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served
in the Korean War. He retired from Y-12 after 38 years of service.
James was preceded in death by parents, Ben and Dora Blakney of Lenoir
City, Daughter, Cynthia Blakney Susak of Lancing and brother, Porter
Blakney, of Memphis.
James is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Betty Bowlin Blakney
Sons; Mike Blakney and wife, Dara, Larry Blakney and wife, Tina
and Benjie Blakney and wife, Melanie, all of Wartburg.
Brother, Glen Blakney of Fayetteville, N.C.
14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, as well as many friends and relatives.
Preacher Blakney was very loved and will be greatly missed by all who were
honored to know him. The family would like to extend a very big thank
you to all of his caregivers over the course of his illness.
The family will receive friends Saturday, March 20th from 6 to 8 P.M. at
the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Wartburg. Funeral services
will be Sunday, March 21st at the church with Bro. James Langston officiating.
Interment will follow in Morgan Memorial Gardens, Wartburg.
