Irene Human Griffin, born in the valley of the mountains at Mill Creek, Tennessee near Sunbright on July 8, 1919, the ninth of twelve children of Edward Franklin and Maude Brock Human, passed away peacefully at her home January 29, 2013. Mrs. Griffin was a member of First Baptist Church, Kingston and a sixty plus year member of Sunbright Chapter No. 303OES. She was an extraordinary mother, caretaker, cook and quilt maker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Willie, Paul, William, Amos(Gladys) and Orville(Kitty) Human; her sisters: Florence (Larcey) Skeens, Grace(Lemmie) Summers, Opal(Earl) Stringfield, Reba(Leslie) Sexton, Glena (Roddie) Davis, and Imogene Human; the father of her children, George W. Griffin and her son-in-law: Wayne Freels and several nieces and nephews.
Left to cherish her memory are children: Shirlene Freels, Diana (Martin) Cash and John Edward Griffin. Her grand and great grandchildren include Stephanie (Michael) Puckett, Jordin, Abby and Jarrett, Martin Cash, Jr., Ashley (Billy) Ward, Katelyn and Nathan, Aaron (Jana) Freels and Andrew (Tonya) and "little" Andi LeAnn Freels. She leaves several nieces and nephews and many friends.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 1, 2013 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm at Schubert Funeral Home Sunbright. Funeral Services will follow with Rev. Rod Garrett officiating. A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 1:00pm in the Sunbright Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to New Midway Baptist Church playground equipment, Kingston, Tennessee.
