Howard Ray Basler, 82, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Howard was born on October 26, 1934 and raised in Oakdale, the son of Harry G. and Maude (McPeters) Basler. He was married for 55 years to the late Joann (Mee) Basler.
Howard worked many different types of jobs over the years. He served many years as a Roane County Deputy Sheriff, a volunteer firefighter, and heavy equipment operator for Martin Marietta and Rust Engineers. He was a member of the International Operating Engineers Local 917 and Southgate #569 F&AM Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded by his parents, wife, three brothers, Garland L., H. Kenneth, and his twin, Harold R. Basler and his wife Bobbie. Two sisters, M. Opal Solomon and her husband James and Lula R. Frost and husband Charles.
He is survived by two sons, Darrell R. Basler and his wife Donna of East Hartford, CT, and Mark K. Basler and his wife Angela of Harriman. Three grandsons, Christopher D. Basler and his wife Lauren and Bryan A. Basler of East Hartford, CT, and Brandon L. Basler of Harriman. And, one great-grandson Matthew D. Basler of East Hartford, CT. Also, one sister, Shirley J. Hedgecock of Catoosa, OK; sister-in-law Wilma C. Basler; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
The family wishes to thank the loving care he received from Quality Private Duty Care for the past three years.
The family will receive friends at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg, TN on Wednesday, March 22 from 5 PM to 7 PM. There will be no service and burial will be at the family’s convenience. Memorial donations may be made to First Christian Church at 324 Morgan Street, Harriman, TN 37748.
