Hermenia Unger Moore died December 31, 2013 in Muskogee, Oklahoma at age 97. Mrs. Moore was born October 1, 1916 in Oakdale, Tennessee, the daughter of Curtis Gustavus and Arlevia Anne Miller Unger, the fourth of nine children. She graduated from Oakdale High School and attended Business College in Knoxville, TN, before marrying her high school sweetheart, George Berton Moore in Rossville, Georgia in 1935.
Hermenia lived in the Oakdale area until 2009 when she moved to Wagoner, OK to live with her daughter. She loved to travel and had visited many foreign countries and the far reaches of the United States with her daughters and her sister Vera. She belonged to the Lutheran Church until she was married and then became an active member of the Oakdale Methodist Church. A longtime resident of the Pine Orchard community, Mrs. Moore leaves many dear friends there as well as in Oakdale. She loved the serenity of her farm home and the countryside.
Hermenia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband G.B., and by her first granddaughter, Anne Broyes, as well as brothers, Melvin and Bill, and sisters, Vera and Lois.
Mrs. Moore is survived by a sister, Lillian Brown, of Louisville, Kentucky and brother, Otto Unger, of Oliver Springs, Tennessee. She leaves two daughters, Frances Ooten of Kingston, and Jean Lancaster of Wagoner, Oklahoma; She is survived by four grandchildren: Valerie Junttila of Chantilly, VA., Jay Franklin of Knoxville, TN., David Edwards of Vienna, VA., and Randy Franklin of Knoxville, TN., as well as nine great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at Oakdale United Methodist Church in Oakdale, Tennessee on February 28, 2014 at 1:00 PM. Visitation with friends will be held from noon to 1:00PM the same day. All friends are warmly invited to visit with the family and celebrated the life of Mrs. Moore. Interment will be at Camp Austin Lutheran Cemetery following the Memorial Service.
