Mr. Harry E. Fritts, age 82, of Rockwood, formerly of Wartburg & South Harriman, passed away Friday Morning, July 5, 2013, Roane Medical Center. He was preceded in death by parents; Dr. J.L. and Georgia Cate Fritts, brothers; Houston, Joe, Frank, King, & John. Mr. Fritts began directing a church choir at the age of 16; he was a retired music teacher of over 34 years having taught in Morgan & Roane County Schools and also at Roane State Community College. He was the founder of the Morgan County Choral Society, Organized & directed the Morgan County Homecoming, served on board of directors for the Roane Civic Music Association for 18 years and was President for 3 years. He graduated college from Carson-Newman College and received a Masters from the University of Tennessee. He was a member and organist of the South Harriman Baptist Church.
Surviving is wife of 43 years June Anderson Fritts of Rockwood, formerly of Crossville
Brother: Tom Duff Fritts of Houston, TX
Sister: Heneritta Mathis Baker of Knoxville
Brother-In-Law: Wallace Anderson & wife Jane of Nashville
Sister-In-Law: Beverly Anderson of Hixson, TN
Also surviving are several nieces & nephews and a host of friends and other relatives.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 8, 2013 from 12-2 pm South Harriman Baptist Church, Harriman. Funeral Services will follow at 2pm with Rev. Matt Edwards and Bro. Ken Isham officiating, interment will follow in the Roane Memorial Gardens, Rockwood.
Memorials may be made to the South Harriman Baptist Church Youth Ministry, and Music Ministry, and the American Heart Association.
