Glen "Shorty" Newport, formerly of Dayton, Ohio, passed away at his home in Petros, TN on January 20, 2014 at age 71. He was born May 1, 1942 in Clinchmore TN.
Glen was preceded in death by his father and mother: Roy and Buelah Newport of Dayton, Ohio; Sisters: Ruth Philips, Evone Chambers, and Billie Kennel of Ohio, sister: Jewel Sterling of Petros and brothers: Gene and Kylen Newport of Dayton, Ohio.
He is survived by brothers: Paul and wife Darlene Newport of Ohio; Celtus Newport of Ohio; Marion Bowling of Lafollette, TN and Wanda Byrge of Jacksboro, TN. Sister: Faye and brother in law Estel Carroll of Stevens, TN; many nieces and nephews and many friends who loved and cherished him.
Glen spent a lot of his time with his sister Faye and brother in law Estel Carroll. He loved Estel like a father and they spent many hours fishing and talking and going out to eat. Estel and Faye loved Glen like a son. Glen loved spending time with them and loved helping take care of them.
Glen was a little man with a heart of a gentle giant. It's not what we get in life that tells our story, but what we give during our lie and Glen was such a giver.
He was a member of Big Mtn. Baptist Church of Oliver Springs, TN. Glen will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him and always be an angel in all of our hearts.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 23 from 6:00-8:00 pm, the funeral to follow at 8:00 with Rev. Lonnie Lowe officiating at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg. The graveside will be held on Friday, January 24 at 12:00 pm in the Old Petros Cemetery.
