Fred L.(Roy) Kennedy, 84, of Lenoir City, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday
November 4, 2012 after a brief illness. He was a member of Deer Lodge Congregational
Church.
Born February 9, 1928 in Indianapolis, Indiana, his family moved to Deer Lodge,
Tennessee while he was an infant. Roy graduated from Sunbright High School in 1945.
He served in the United States Navy from 1946 until 1948. After military service he
settled in Detroit, Michigan where he started a family and worked his way through
Carpenter Apprenticeship School as a member of the Carpenter's Union. Roy later
formed Great Lakes Building Corporation and began building homes and apartments as a
general contractor. In the 1960's and early 1970's his companies built many custom
homes, including custom homes for handicapped veterans throughout the Detroit
metropolitan area. In 1971, Roy moved back to Morgan county, Tennessee where he
opened Kennedy Building Supply on Main Street, Wartburg (next to Crouch's store).
This store grew into Kennedy True Value Hardware & Home Center which Roy operated
until the mid-1990's. Meanwhile he built many homes and apartment buildings in the
Wartburg area. After selling his store, he moved to Lenoir City where he had built
apartments and the home that he made his final residence in. Over the years, Roy
taught Sunday School at Deer Lodge Congregational Church, enjoyed fishing,
