Evelyn Joan Farmer, a beloved mother, grandmother, and teacher died of cholangiocarcinoma on November 22, 2015, in Houston, Texas. She was 75.
Joan was born on December, 3rd, 1939, in Wartburg, Tennessee, to parents Jack and Lydia Freytag. She graduated from Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee, with a degree in Education. In 1979, she moved to Houston, Texas and accepted a teaching position at LaPorte Independent School District, where she worked for 20 years. A kind and loving person, she was also passionate about sewing, baking, and reading.
Joan is survived by her daughter Kimberly Denise Hillers and her husband Alan; son Scott Dewayne Farmer and his wife Amy; grandchildren, Kelsi Hillers, Andrew Hillers, Amber Rowen and Cameryn Rowen, all from Houston, Texas and her sisters Patricia Harmon, Mary Jane Moore and Linda Jewell all from Tennessee. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Jack and Lydia Freytag and her brother Frank Freytag, all of Wartburg, Tennessee.
A funeral is scheduled for 2PM on December 5th, 2015, at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg, Tennessee. A memorial service will also be held for family and friends in Houston, Texas at Joan's home at 2PM on December 12th, 2015. All are welcome to attend to celebrate her life.
