Edith Overton

Mrs. Edith Faye Redmon Brewer Overton, age 79 of Wartburg, passed away Friday, May 13, 2011.

Edith was a lifelong resident of Morgan County and a lifetime member of Liberty Baptist Church. She was a compassionate, caring, and giving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her life's work was continually helping and loving others as evidenced by her favorite Scripture: "Be kind to one another." Edith never had worldly wealth to pour out but she spent her life pouring out the riches of love and kindness to her family and friends and blessed all who knew her. She gave from a deep well of Christlike love and forgiveness. Those who have poured out their pain and sorrow to her compassionate ear would attest to her comfort and care. Her heart was full of love and her hands were full of good deeds.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Lizzie Redmon; her husband, Manford; daughter, Kathy; grandsons, Adam and Ryan; sisters, Betty Redmon, Charlotte Lamance, Reba Wilson, and Cora Mae Bullen.

She is survived by husband, J.D. Overton;
her children, Pat and husband John Cope, Karen and husband Ken Cooner, Ken and wife Jennifer Brewer, and Jerry Brewer;
grandchildren, Nathan Cooner, Micah and Catherine Brewer; stepdaughters, Teena Stewart and Twanda Overton; sister, Rema Lane; brothers, E.J. Redmon, Ray Redmon, and Ronnie and wife Judy Redmon;
brothers-in-law, Cecil Brewer, and Glen and wife Mary Jo Brewer; sister-in-law, Helen Laughter; former son-in-law; Alvin Cooper, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Edith was a joy and blessing to her family. She was the center around whom all were gathered by her love. Our hearts are heavy with the greatness of our loss, but we rejoice in her deliverance from all fears, pain, sorrow, tears, and suffering. In accordance with Scripture, we her children rise up to call this virtuous woman blessed. We give praise to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ for her and her well spent life.

The family will receive friends Monday, May 16, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. at the Liberty Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Frick officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Overton will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.
