Dora Leatha Cheeks Carroll, age 87, passed away Wednesday morning, September 14, 2016, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was born February 14, 1929, in Roane County and lived in the surrounding area her entire life. Dora was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Nothing gave her more pleasure than caring for her grandchildren as they came along. She was a fabulous baker and cook. Her other hobbies were flower gardening, the outdoors, jigsaw puzzles, and playing Yahtzee. She loved spending time with her neighbor friends and church friends at Family Worship Center in Wartburg.
Dora is preceded in death by son Spencer Del Howell, former husband of thirty years and father of her five children Harlie Leo Howell. She is also preceded in death by mother and father, Viola Black Cheeks and Dewey Cheeks and two siblings, Floyd Cheeks and Edith Williams.
Dora is survived by four children and their families: Joetta and husband James Slover; Sam and wife Kathy Howell; Teresa Howell Scott; and Sherry and husband Ellis Daugherty. She is survived by a sister, Joyce Nauman Cooper. She leaves behind many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Schuberts Funeral Home, Wartburg,Tennessee, Saturday, September 17, 11:30 - 1:00 p.m. immediately followed by a funeral service in the chapel with Rev Frank Price presiding. Interment will follow at the Morgan Memorial Gardens in Wartburg, Tennessee.
