Donald "Ducky" Jones, of Bitter Creek, TN

Donald “Ducky” Jones of Bitter Creek passed away January 2, 2019 at his home. He was born, April 9, 1948 in Dover, Arkansas to George and Louise Jones.

He enlisted in the Army in October of 1967 and served in Vietnam in the 336 Assault Helicopter Company, logging 1800 combat flight hours from May 1968 – June 1970.

He was a Boiler Maker Local 453 out of Knoxville from February 1976 until his retirement. He was a faithful member and supporter of Wartburg First Baptist Church for more than 20 years. Ducky loved spending time at the race track, especially at the Wartburg Speedway, where he helped his longtime friend, Keith Longmire, maintain and prepare the track. He also enjoyed welding, mowing and working on cars. “Work” was his hobby but when it was time to rest, he loved to relax by the creek.

He is survived by his children, Amber Morales of Menard, TX., Holly (Jason) Zachary of Knoxville, TN., Brandi (Brandon) Williams of Sevierville, TN., Megan (Nicholas) Grayson of Rockwood, TN. and Coby Jones of Bitter Creek; grandchildren, Samantha  (Leon) Allegretti, Jessica (Paul) Surry, Caleb Belitz, Tyson Zachary and Zoe Williams; great grandchildren, Conner and Aiden as well as nieces, Denise (Randall) Wallis, Melissa (Jim) Reynolds and Kevin (Amanda) Johnson; siblings, Kenneth (Teresa) Jones and Vicki (Kenneth) Johnson and a host of special friends.

The family would like to thank the many friends who took the time to visit Ducky in his last days. We express our deepest gratitude to Keith and Missy Longmire, Dean and Kelly Kidd, Jerry Pierce, L.D. French, Daniel and Betty Diden, Adrian Hamby, Travis Wilson, Eric Zrucky, Jimmy Lloyd and “Wiz” who went out of their way to show Ducky the love of Christ and Bro. Johnny who has driven countless miles to minister to and bless Ducky.

The family will receive friends Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Schubert Funeral Home from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with the funeral to follow at 7:00 p.m. with Bro. Johnny Nix officiating. Graveside will be Friday, January 4, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. in the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville.
