Mr. Donald (Don) E. Whitus passed away on February 9, 2016. He was 80 years of age. He was born and raised in Petros where he continued to live most of his life. Prior to his death, he had been a resident of The Courtyards in Oak Ridge, TN.
He was employed at Roane Electric in Rockwood, TN for thirty years and was also a former employee of the TN Dept. of Corrections.
He was preceded in death by his parents William Gray and Mary Cooley Whitus, a beloved sister and her husband, Imogene and Bob Evans and brother Robert G. Whitus and his wife Marjorie and a nephew, James C. Evans.
He is survived by two daughters Mary Wood and Jane Griffith and husband Don, grandchildren Daniel, Andrew and Emily and great grandchildren Ashlee, Addie and Caleb all of Lexington, KY. Also surviving are three special nieces Bobbie Duncan, Emily Duncan and husband Robert, Sandra McDaniel and husband Charlie and one nephew Billy Gray Reynolds. A special friend Archie Foster and many other extended family and friends.
He was a member of Union Baptist Church in Joyner, TN and also attended Petros Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends February 12, 2016 at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg, TN from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with the funeral to follow at 7:00 pm. Rev. John Justice will deliver the eulogy and Rev. Mark Caldwell will conduct the service. Graveside Services will be at the Petros Cemetery February 13, 2016 at 11:00 pm where family and friends will gather. He will be buried beside his father. Rev. John Justice will conduct the graveside service.
