Mr. Charles Thomas Goodroe III, age 62, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving 22 years in the U.S. Army as a pilot, flying fixed wing and rotorcraft. He was a veteran of two tours of duty in Vietnam. A true war hero, he was awarded a Purple Heart and twice awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the military's highest honors for a pilot. He was a member of the Humane Society and a graduate of Troy State University, member Gamma Beta Phi Society.
Charles is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carol; Son: Christopher of Manchester, TN; Daughter: Tracy Nichols and husband, Edward; Grandchildren: Matthew, Nathan, and Sarah Nichols all of Ft. Carson, CO; brother, David Goodroe and wife, Bernadette of Washington and sister, Melissa Hoffmann and husband, Sigmar of Utah; and his in-laws from Illinois and aunts, uncles, and cousins from Ohio and Utah.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 18th from 2 to 4 p.m. at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Chaplain Tom Rayford officiating. A private interment will follow at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Morgan County Humane Society, P.O. Box 55, Wartburg, TN 37887.
