Boyd Franklin

Boyd N. Franklin, 75 of Petros, TN passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. Mr. Franklin was born, June 6, 1940 in Sylva, NC. Boyd was a member of the Black Diamond Masonic Lodge #625, The Order of Eastern Star Sunrise chapter #364, The York Rite Commandry, The Kerbella Shrine Temple, Petros Baptist Church and a United States Air Force Veteran having served at Lackland AFB TX, Wethersfield AFB Essex, England, Offutt AFB, Omaha, Nebraska, Turner AFB, Albany, GA, McCoy AFB, Orlando, FL, as well as the most honorable, Saigon, Vietnam. Boyd worked at Mead Corporation, (now Jackson Paper) in Sylva, NC and more recently at the Department of Energy in Oak Ridge, TN before retiring in 1996.

Mr. Franklin was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman and Ruby Franklin; mother and father-in-law, Robert and Eva Nunley; as well as twin baby brothers

Survivors include wife, Judy N. Franklin of the home; daughter, Traci Franklin of Sylva, NC; son, Shane Nunley of Petros, TN; grandchildren, Jessica B. Burrell of Sylva, NC, Robert and Whitney Nunley of Petros, TN; sisters, Phoebe(Howard) Bateman of Franklin, NC, Reba (Sam) Beck of Hayesville, NC; brothers, Ray (Ola) Franklin of Robinsville, NC and Mark (Pat) Franklin of Hayesville, NC; also surviving are special relatives, Baxter (Shelby) Trail, Bobby Nunley, Barbara (Bubby) Massingale, Della Long all of Petros, TN and George(Yvonne) Nunley of Chattanooga, TN as well as several nieces and nephews.

Boyd enjoyed time with family and friends, playing music, serving his community, as well as being an avid HAM Radio operator.

The family will receive friends Friday, April 15, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00PM at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg with a Masonic Funeral immediately following. A full Military Rites graveside will be held Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 11:00AM in the Petros Cemetery. Benediction will be given by Dr. Jim West of Petros Baptist Church. Pall bearers will be Jake Christopher, Hoot Long, Chase Brown, Austin Massingale, Seth Long, Jordan Long and Larry (Porky) Harris. Honorary Pall Bearers are Doobie and Logan Bunch.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Black Diamond Masonic Lodge #625, The Eastern Star Sunrise Chapter #364 or Petros Baptist Church, all of Petros, TN.
