Bonnie Bates

Bonnie Willadean Daniel Bates went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 9:30 a.m., December 23, 2012, at her home in Lancing.
Bonnie was born October 30, 1931 in Sunbright, TN. She married John (Junior) W. Bates, Jr. on December 20, 1946. They were married 60 years prior to Junior's death. She was a good Christian wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She worked at Burlington Hosiery Mills for 20 years; later at Oak Ridge Hospital prior to retirement.
She was a founding member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church in the Batley Community where she sang in a Christian Quartet.
She was currently a founding member of Bethel Grace Freewill Baptist Church in the Lancing Community and was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She liked nothing better than attending church and fellowshipping with her church family.
Bonnie was an avid gardener and enjoyed canning vegetables and fruits. She loved fishing and working in her beautiful flower garden when she was able. Also during her lifetime she quilted many good warm quilts. Her home was always open to friends and strangers and the table was always full of good home cooking.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Bates, Jr., parents Jessie Roy Daniel and Edith Walker Daniel Hamby; sisters and brothers-in-law Velva England (Estel), Iola Hamby (Halard) and baby sister Clara Jean Daniel; one brother Harvey Leroy Daniel (Georgia).
She leaves behind five children and spouses: Johnny Leroy Bates (Marie), Cathy Bates Holmes (Jerry), Stanley Bates and special daughter-in-law and caretaker Reba, Aleshia Bates Hawley (Dave), and Anthony Bates (Linda).
Nine grandchildren: Danny Rouse, Amy Conrad, Toby Bates, Tracy Clevenger, Stephanie Duncan, Travis Bates, Alyssa Ritter, Teachia Hawley, and Amanda Bates. 36 Great grandchildren, 4 great great Grandchildren,
Seven step grandchildren Telisa Potter, Ernie Brown, Terry Williams, Michal Holmes, Elizabeth Whelan, Ray Graham and Tabitha Durham.
Three sisters and brothers-in-law: Faye Robbins (Bob), Ruth Scarborough (Donald) and Sue Human (Bobby).
Special thanks go out to: Telisa Potter for her help in food preparation in the home during Bonnie's last illness; two special people Whitney Brown (Pretty Princess), Lynetta Potter (Old Grouch) who gave Bonnie many hours of enjoyment over the past few years and long-time friends Judy and Steve Childress for their friendship and their assistance.
