Bobbie Joan Hatfield Holiway

June 23, 1937 – October 28, 2017

Bobbie Joan Hatfield Holiway, 80, went home to be with the Lord on October 28th, 2017, at Edgewood Senior Living in Eagle, Idaho, with her family by her side.  Bobbie was born to Minnie and Dewey Hatfield on June 23, 1937 in a small town in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains in East Tennessee. The small town of Petros, Tennessee, is Bobbie's hometown and where she grew up as a child.

Bobbie's dad, George Dewey Hatfield, was a Superintendent in the Mining Industry. One of Bobbie's favorite past-times growing up as a little girl was to spend time with her Dad while he did lots of volunteer work in the local community. Bobbie had an infectious laugh and got her great sense of humor from her mom, Minnie Hatfield, who always made you smile by saying what she meant without ever mincing any words. Bobbie's family growing up included her sisters; Georgia, Frankie, Donna and one brother, Dewey, affectionately called Ekie.  Bobbie was preceded in death by her father, George Dewey Hatfield and mother, Minnie Hatfield, along with her sister, Ruby Hatfield.

One of Bobbie's many passions as a young teenager was dancing. She was a particularly good dancer and enjoyed hours of fun attending local dances while in high school. Even through the later years of Bobbie's life, she always enjoyed dancing! Her favorite subject in school was English and she was an excellent writer.  After High School Graduation, Bobbie moved to Washington DC to work for the FBI, which is one of the most favorite chapters of Bobbie's life. During Bobbie's tenure in Washington, she fell in love and married a young Navy man, Weldon Yvonne Holiway.  After several years of meaningful marriage and family, they later took different paths in their life journeys. As a young married couple, they proceeded to travel the globe as a military family and chose to grow their family with the birth of two children, both a girl and a boy, "Gwen and Jeff.”

Bobbie's faith played a major role throughout the course of her life. She shared her faith with her children and made sure they attended Sunday school at a very young age. Having been raised in the Methodist Church, Bobbie held a special place for the Methodist Church in her heart. No matter where she lived in her military travels, Bobbie never wavered on the importance of attending church and was faithful to hearing the Bible taught.

Bobbie was an incredibly multi-talented lady. She was a beautiful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Bobbie poured her life into being a wonderful loving mother while teaching Godly values and principles to her children and grandchildren. As the mother of her two children, Gwendolyn Carol and Jeffrey Alan, she was known as "Mom" and sometimes "Mother" to her daughter. Bobbie also had a very precious and special relationship over the years with her daughter-in-law, Lissa, who is married to Jeff with four beautiful daughters; Lauren, Alyssa, Madeline, and Gracyn.

Bobbie was affectionately referred to as "Nana" by all her grandchildren. Bobbie's only grandson, Adam Jonathan, from her daughter, Gwendolyn, was Bobbie's oldest grandchild and referred to by Bobbie as her "Bud.”  Nana Bobbie always enjoyed an especially unique and genuinely close relationship with each of her beautiful granddaughters; Lauren Ashley, Alyssa Nicole, Madeline Carey, and Gracyn Olivia. Each always had a special place in her heart. All and all, Nana Bobbie had five grandchildren in total and two great-grandchildren from Adam; Talon Michael and Breilee Marie.

Bobbie's many talents included being an accredited cook with prize winning pies, master seamstress, incredibly gifted in hospitality and entertaining, served her country and community as President of the Republican's Club in Houston. Bobbie's entire working career covered the scope of her numerous passions from children, as a nursery school teacher on Midway Island to her patriotic heart with Civil Service work administratively assisting the command team for the F/A-18 project at NAS Lemoore. Bobbie's last career assignment was at the University of Tennessee, Audiology & Speech Pathology Department in the Graduate Student Program where Bobbie developed many close relationships with both staff members and graduate students. She loved the game of basketball and was an avid Lady Vols fan.  Over the years, Bobbie invested her heart and soul into the lives of others! And Bobbie continued to do so until the very day the good Lord took her home to live in her Father's house in Heaven.

It is truly Heaven's gain.  Bobbie will be forever missed here on earth. There will NEVER be another Bobbie Joan! She fought the good fight battling Alzheimer's with the strength of the Lord, a smile on her face and her family by her side. A true Southern belle is dancing on the Streets of Gold today! And in the arms of Her Savior...

The Life Celebration for Bobbie Joan Hatfield Holiway will begin on December 8, 2017, at Schubert Funeral Home where the family will receive friends and family Friday evening from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Bobbie's Life Celebration Service, burial, and reception will be hosted by Schubert Funeral Home on Saturday, December 9, 2017. The Service will begin at 1:00pm with Bobbie's graveside burial ceremony immediately following the Life Celebration Service. A reception for friends and family will be hosted by the family at Schubert Funeral Home following the graveside burial ceremony.
