Betty Katherine Beck Amich (nee Dorscheid), passed away on the evening of April 12, 2016. She was in the place where she wanted to be when she went to meet the Lord: in her own home, and in the care of her family. She was loved and cherished by her family, and they were blessed to have had her with them for eighty-one years.
She was born on February 24, 1935 to Matt and Pearl Dorscheid (nee Shadow) in Deer Lodge, Tennessee. Betty "Kay" Dorscheid married Leonard Ray Beck on November 7, 1954, and had two daughters, Karen and Lenore. Over their years together, they enjoyed sharing a life in the states of Tennessee, Indiana, and Florida. After Leonard's passing, Betty wanted to return to her roots, and once again spent several years in her "green hills," as she called her beloved Cumberland Mountains. Her later years were spent in Fishers, Indiana, at the home she shared with her daughter Karen Beck, and she constantly enjoyed the company of all her family.
Betty was an avid reader and artist. For over 40 years she was a master of "egg artistry,' turning real egg shells, from ostrich to finch, into magnificent works of art. She won many awards and accolades, exhibiting her work in juried art shows in various states.
Betty was a devout Catholic, and was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lancing and, in her later years, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Carmel, Indiana. She served as a lector at St. Ann's, and participated in Bible study classes at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Leonard Beck, her parents Matt and Pearl Dorscheid of Lancing, her aunts June Galloway of Oneida, Willow Dean Qualls of Harriman, and Ina Mae Byers of Knoxville. She is survived by her children, Karen Beck of Fishers, Indiana, and Lenore Beck, of The Woodlands, Texas; four grandchildren (Katie Broach (Tim) of Carmel, Indiana; Josh Neal (Kristina), Gabe Neal, and Jordan Neal (Kristin) all of Spring, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Emma, Molly, and Rachel Broach of Carmel, Indiana. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Johnson (John), of Indianapolis, Indiana, along with many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Family and friends will be received from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lancing. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m., with graveside services at Wartburg Cemetery. Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg, Tennessee is handling all the arrangements.
