Barney Reed Walker born February 16, 1918 of Deer Lodge, passed away at the age of 95 on Friday, February 14, 2014 at Parkwest Medical Center.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and received the EAME Campaign Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. He served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater of Operation from June 1942 to January 1944. He was a life time member of the DAV and the VFW. Barney was very proud to be a member of the military. He stated many times that all of those who serve and have served in the military were a higher class of people. He was the oldest veteran in Morgan County.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Addie Mae Jones Branstetter Walker; sons, Charles Ray Young, Carl Branstetter, and Willard Branstetter; parents, Samuel Webster and Nellie Jane Todd Walker; sisters, Thelma, Wilma, Geneva, Phyllis, and Jenell; brother, Russell Walker.
He is survived by his daughter, Katie Bowmer of Belleville, Michigan; daughter-in-law, Jean Branstetter of Deer Lodge, TN; son, Ross and wife Kathy Branstetter, and son, Jack and his wife Brenda Branstetter, all of Deer Lodge, TN; sister, Bonnie Szarek of California; brothers, Willis Walker of Meister Hills, TN and Jackie Walker of Deer Lodge, TN; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends, Monday February 17, 2014 from 6-8 pm Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg. Funeral services will follow at 8 pm, with Pastor Rose Hermonat of Deer Lodge Congregational Church UCC officiating. Graveside services with Military Honors will be Tuesday 1 pm at the High Point Cemetery, Deer Lodge.
