Arthur Gideon “Red” Jones, 89, of the Joyner Community passed away from the world to a Heavenly home on March 21, 2017. He was born in Petros, TN on August 19, 1927.

He was the son of William Henry Jones and Flonnie Stella Crouch Jones, both deceased. He also had a sister Maybelle and brother, Eldon, both deceased.

Arthur served the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1953. He served as Post Commander of the local American Legion for several years. Arthur was a member of the Black Diamond Lodge 625 of Petros.

Arthur worked for Fairchild’s Air Craft and then for Union Carbide at K25, and later for the Department of Energy, Technical Information Center. He also worked part time at the Food City Store in Oliver Springs after his retirement.

Arthur is survived by his wife, Shirley Wilson Jones of 63 years; son, Hank Jones and wife Becky of Crossville; daughter, Melissa Byrd and husband, Marty of Knoxville; granddaughter, Sabrina Martin and husband, Dean and grandson Russell Byrd of Knoxville; great grandchildren, Shane, Nina and Isaac. A host of nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church where he and Shirley faithfully attended until failing health prevented them from attending.

The family will receive friends, Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Schubert Funeral Home in Wartburg with the funeral to follow at 3:00 p.m. with Bro Hank Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Church Cemetery in Joyner.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Liberty Baptist Church building fund.
