Alice Scott Melton of Wartburg, TN

It is with great sadness that the family of Alice Scott Melton, age 89, announces her passing on December 9, 2017.  Alice was a faithful and devoted servant of God.  She was a lifelong member and pianist for the Presbyterian churches in Wartburg and Lancing.

Alice’s love for learning helped to shape many young minds in Morgan County while being a teacher for 38 years.   She began her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse in the 1940’s, traveled to schools all over the county teaching music, before finally retiring from Central Elementary School as a classroom teacher in the early 1980’s.  She nourished people around her with love, faith and music.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Truman O. Melton; parents John Long and Alta May (Clark) Scott; siblings Jewell (Ray Voss), Caroline, Dorothy (Edwin Walley), John (Burniece Owens), William “Bill” (Ann Vespie Johnson), Russell (Margaret Patching), and Bernice; nephew and niece Robert Scott and Nancy Seay.  Surviving is her brother-in-law Charles Bradshaw (Bernice Scott) and nieces and nephews: Laura Hardwick, Barbara Gibson, Brenda Watkins, William “Bill” Scott, Judy McCorkle, David Scott, Gary Scott, Carole Choomack, Robert “Bobby” Bradshaw, and Alan Bradshaw.

She will be sadly missed by her children Randall D. Knight (wife Angela) and Ricky A. Knight; grandchildren Jared Knight, Logan Knight, Amber (Curtis Jones), Toby Knight, a host of great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces, and one special nephew Alan Bradshaw and wife Tracy, along with lifelong friends Faye Draper and Ruby Greene.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 13 from 5:00 to 7:00 with funeral service immediately following at 7:00 with Pastor Carolyn Anderson  and nephew, Paul Seay officiating.  Graveside services will be held on Thursday, at 11:00 at Wartburg City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Morgan Scott Project or Wartburg Public Library in Alice's memory.
